Press Release: Tim McGraw and Sandy Hook Promise

For Immediate Release:

CCDL Reaction to Tim McGraw’s Anti-Gun Concert

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (The state’s largest grass-roots gun rights group) has issued the following statement on a benefit fundraiser to be headlined by popular country music star Tim McGraw:

Statement from CCDL President Scott Wilson:

“We have watched and followed this story closely over the last several days to gauge the reaction of Tim McGraw’s fan base, and the fans of country music in general. I sincerely believe that Tim was not aware that the organization known as ‘Sandy Hook Promise’ actually operates with a completely anti-2nd amendment agenda. SHP (as they are known) has cheered on every piece of legislation in this state (and at the federal level) intended to curtail or eradicate our rights as law abiding Americans.”

“Mr. McGraw has now been brought up to speed on what this anti-gun organization which masquerades as something else is all about, but  apparently he is doubling down by going forward with this event. In spite of Tim’s claims that he is about protecting children and family, the organization he is supporting would leave families defenseless with their zeal. It’s hard to believe it, but apparently Tim McGraw has gone Hollywood Country.”
Wilson thanks the nation for their support:

“Connecticut has had a very tough couple of years with the aftermath of Sandy Hook. Innocent children were murdered here, and we all felt it.  The blame however was placed squarely on the shoulders of gun owners. Laws were passed that crippled our rights, and new laws are waiting to be passed that will hurt us even more.”

“I am very humbled by the outcry I have seen from country music fans from all over that are outraged a superstar like Tim McGraw would align himself with an organization like SHP. Country music is one of the last bastions of entertainment where people express patriotism and aren’t afraid to admit that they are proud gun owning Americans.  Connecticut gun owners, and our organization ‘Connecticut Citizens Defense League’ thanks everyone from all over this great country for supporting the 2nd Amendment.”

Special Thank You:

“We also wish to send a special thank you to country artist Billy Currington for stepping aside from this event, and for recognizing those behind it for exactly what they are.”

About the CCDL:

The Connecticut Citizens Defense League was formed in 2009 by a small group of concerned citizens as a non-partisan organization to advocate second amendment rights in the state of Connecticut. Since their founding, the group has grown to nearly 18,000 members across the state.

Thanks to this large supportive base across the state the CCDL has become a fixture of the capitol, and well-recognized by committees that see firearms related bills.

As the go-to organization in the state they are consulted regularly by lawmakers who have questions and concerns about pending legislation or existing laws. For more information on the CCDL please visit

  1. I doubt Tim McGraw would make an anti- second amendment at the country music awards or on any stage in the south. Only in one of the liberal run states at a anti-gun event will he get away with his ridiculous view. Unfortunately the socialist, unconstitutional state of Connecticut is one of the lost states. I just wish that idiot Mcgraw would preach his views elsewhere. We in this socialist run state have too many liberal second amendment haters as it is ruining law biding citizens rights.

  2. We should all be contacting Tim McGraw or his agents and ask that he withdraw from this event. Or hit him in the pocketbook, don’t attend and don’t buy his music.

Here is an example of what can be done. This week I went to CCDL. When I came home, I immediately sent a thank you note, hand addressed, to every Rep and Senator that voted against the two bills approved by the Joint Judiciary Committee.

We all have to step up and take immediate action to protect our rights.

Each individual man, woman and child receives their rights from GOD, not from the State, and one of the chief purposes of the State is to protect and respect those GOD given rights.

  3. Was a fan of Mr. McGraw. Extremely disappointed that he did not educate himself prior to committing to this event. Furthermore, after attaining knowledge what this group is truly about, he did not withdraw from this event. No more Tim McGraw CD’s, ITunes downloads, merchandise for me.

  4. Charlize Theron, mark walberg and brother, Sean pen all make their living off portraying guns in a violent manner. Then they stand up and shout they are anti gun. Penn reportedly melted his guns for Charlize on his birthday!
Then made a movie Glorifying gun violence. It’s part of the brain washing of America. It’s never been a secret, Hollywood is trash!

Apparently Tim mc graw isn’t too far behind. I always thought his music sucked anyway, but my nephews listened to him until today. They are young but very PRO 2A. As are many younger kids in today’s connecticut.

I’m surprised daily by how many Connecticut teens are pro 2a and anti democrat. They get it.

It’s only our city’s that don’t and that’s because they are getting paid through our taxes to vote democrat.

  10. You people are f*****g morons. Nice work turning dead children into a political agenda. Unreal.

    • You of course mean Sandy Hook Promise, a group even some of the Sandy Hook families have publicly denounced as well. Yea, it makes us angry too, but try to keep the language clean, ok?

    • John on apri 17 at 8:21

You are absolutely correct they are morons, to have used those children and paraded those families for political agenda was sickening.

More sickening was them (democrats) excluding Mr Matioli from being brought to DC to speak because his view points didn’t meet their political (anti gun)agenda. Proof is right there in front of all. Mr Matioli whose child perished along with the rest of the children was shunned during a very rough time for him. His treatment was truely despicable. You may look again at the decision to count only 26 victims as the next slap in the face to gun owners. It’s them saying she owned a gun, she’s not even worthy of being counted as a person. I’m embarrassed by the fact that the pro 2A community did nothing to defend these two points.

    • No, truly promoting gun safety is NOT anti-gun at all.
However, promoting and advocating for restrictions and bans on the types of guns used safely every day for the last 50-100yrs by millions of gun owners and calling THAT “gun safety” is indeed anti-gun. There is also the issue of an organization that claims the money raised is to support the families of the victims of that horrible day, yet the families themselves are coming out saying that is not true either, and have disavowed any connection to “Sandy Hook Promise”.

  15. This country has lost its flippin’ mind. Even in the crazy days of the Wild, Wild, West people would’ve had sense enough to know that military-grade weapons, designed specifically for the purpose of killing as many people as possible, in the shortest amount of time possible, have NO BUSINESS being available to every Tom, Dick, and Psycho. GET A GRIP. You are NOT a “militia.” You are NOT the National Guard. If you are determined to get your jollies by “playing Army,” join the military or your local police force, and ACTUALLY PUT YOUR ASS ON THE LINE. #OurColdDeadChildren

    • Actually, according federal law, we ARE the militia, but that’s neither here nor there, because the Connecticut State Constitution, last revised in the 1960s, simply says “Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.”
And in the days of the “wild west” and before, citizens had EXACTLY the same firepower as the military. If you study your history, you will find that many of the firearms used during the American Revolutionary War were privately owned. The AR15 started life as a civilian rifle more than 50 years ago. It was modified and adopted by the military years after it was sold to the public. Almost every military small arm started life as a civilian gun.

    • Wow, that person doesn’t know much about the Wild West or even history do they. The guns carried by the miItary and the guns carried by anyone else including outlaws were all pretty much the same. Later you could buy a Thompson sub machine gun mail order as an average citizen, and in the early 80s my Freind who worked at colt bought an M16 ( for low information people that’s actually full auto and Military issue. unlike an AR15) for about $500 bucks. 😉

Btw wasn’t it already illegal to kill people? Then why would an anti gun law stop someone who was already going to break a law carrying more punishment? It wouldn’t. It will however keep a woman from protecting herself, and her family from a stronger or even multiple attackers.

I’m glad the low information people are posting here though, it means they ARE reading some of the truth, instead of the lies. So many have come around in the past few years to now understand the truth, I personally know at least 10 previous anti gunner/ liberals who now see the light and have changed their way of thinking.

They all now carry a pistol legally, btw

    • I’ve USED my “military” grade guns to protect myself from crazy gov’t officials, and recently .. so I’ll keep my guns if you don’t mind. Thank you very much to keep your hands off them. You sound like a crazy person.
